NFL Power Rankings Week 5: Falcons Stay on Top After Scare From Panthers

All 32 NFL teams ranked after week 4.    Previous Weeks Rankings.

The Twist: Each week my top 12 ranked teams will consist of 6 NFC teams and 6 AFC teams since 6 from each conference will qualify for the post season. I reflect the top 12 teams most likely to make the playoffs each week.

The Falcons, Cardinals and Texans remain undefeated and stay at the top of the rankings.

Giants in top 10?

Most expert ranking have had the Giants in their top ten evidently allowing the defending super bowl champs to rest on their 2011 laurels. My ranking has kept them around the 15 mark since the loss to Dallas. While I realize the 2-2 Giants may get hot later, right now they are 0-2 in the NFC East.

Top Movers:

  • UP: Rams won their second game and it was a division game against the Seahawks. Up 7 spots to #16.
  • UP: Vikings are now 3-1 and beat a division opponent Sunday the Lions. Up 5 spots to #13.
  • DOWN: Jets were completely blown up by the 49ers 34-0. The Jets offense appears to be who we thought they were. Down 7 spots to #19.
  • DOWN: Seahawks have looked impressive at home with wins over Dallas and Green Bay but reality is they are now 0-2 in the NFC West after losing to the Rams and they have yet to play the 49ers. Down 4 spots to #17.

Division Games Matter:

I put a large emphasis on division records because in order to get to the super bowl, a team must be in the playoffs and to win in the playoffs it helps to play at home. To play at home, teams need to win their division.

4 teams are 2-0 in their division: Jets, Ravens, Texans, and Chargers

5 teams are 0-2 in their division: Bills, Browns, Raiders, Giants, Seahawks
